I was at the track the other day with my friend Thomas when we spotted a guy wiping the hood of an old school Cougar. The car was obviously a street drag car as it was equipped with all of the safety features- Roll bar, no back seat and a huge set of tires that would allow the driver to have fun on the street or on the track. After speaking with the guy for a few minutes he stated that he has a motorcycle also and remembered me for (Saturday Morning Garage Party/ with Mitch Faulkner) Formally an Atlanta Metro area radio show- targeting motorcycle enthusiast.
From there we spoke for about an hour; all the while Thomas was amazed with all of the gadgets on the gentleman’s car.
Before long our new friend was driving his Cougar to the staging pit and did his burn out. He crept to the start line and patiently waited in the Christmas Tree to turn green. At the green light he slammed on the gas causing the car to leap off the ground.
This was Thomas’ first time to the track and had never seen a car hop off of the ground. I explained the purpose of the roll bars to him and he couldn’t believe that the cars would have enough power to jump off of the ground.
Well, I understand that many people have never witnessed a car jump off the ground unless it had hydraulics. Lol
